If we restrict developers to use tabs only on the main page, so no need to a new componant; they can currently use pully menu, or horizontal pages instead of tabs. Horizontal pages will work like tabs with left/right swipes and will be shown by dots on top.
Email app, I think, is a good example to replace tabs with other elements:
(1) icons for different accounts on the main page (instead of having them on tabs);
(2) entering an account, you will have a page on the right side to choose a folder (instead of having all folders as tabs)
